Hi. I'm Shuotao (Sonny) Diao.

And I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Advanced Engineering at Great Bay Univeristy. Prior to joing Great Bay University, I was a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University, working with Prof. Dave Morton. I earned my Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering at USC, under the supervision of Prof. Suvrajeet Sen. I also received my Master's degree in Computer Science at USC. I obtained a Master's degree in Statistics at Lehigh University and a Bachelor's degree in Physics at Shandong University.

Here's an overview of my research.

On the Interplay Between Stochastic Programming and Non-parametric Statistics

We developed distribution-free algorithms for predictive stochastic programming in the presence of streaming data to allow decisions under uncertainty to adapt to the knowledge of leading indicators. Link to the paper.

A Reliability Theory of Compromise Decisions for Large-Scale Stochastic Programs

We propose a unifying mathematical framework to support the reliability analysis of stochastic programming solutions resulting from the “compromise decision” process. Link to the paper.

Building Optimization Models for Mitigating Pandemic Surges and More

We are developing SEIR compartmental methods and stagedalert systems with wastewater signals to support wastewater surveillance project from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Link to the slides

Here’s some random stuff I made and experienced recently.
